What’s up young womyn, young men, girls, boys, ladies, guys…whatever you’d like to be called.. you get the point…

We want to welcome you to our website, “our baby.” This project was a lot of time and work in the making and we have so much to show for it.

On July 8th, 2002, 6 young womyn came together as the focus of research on “The lives of young womyn in the city.” We ranged in age from 16-22, and different ethnic backgrounds. We are Chinese, Puerto Rican, African-American, Dominican, and Black-Latina. As diverse as we are, personalities included, we seemed to click instantly and our conversations flowed. We fed off each others ideas and we built on them as well. We spoke of personal experiences, shared our writings and discussed world issues we felt were impacting us. This resulted in several ideas for our own research project. We decided we would do a specific project on young, urban., womyn of color (who live on the LES) and the stereotypes we are forced to face each day.

Our first idea was to expose these stereotypes to the rest of the world. To do this we came up with the sticker campaign. Once our stickers were up around the Lower East Side we then decided to work on the research study which included our reflections. This study will be put into a newsletter form and distributed to organizations and interested individuals.

As if we haven’t already done enough, we then realized a website would really help us to spread our message. And so, here you have it!
